Europe, The Middle East, Africa and Asia – EMEAA Region
Since the outbreak of the Syrian crisis in 2011, it is estimated that up to 6 million people were displaced internally, and 6.7 million persons have crossed the border into neighboring countries such as Lebanon, Jordan, and Türkiye.
RET entered the Middle East region, specifically Lebanon, in 2013, and Türkiye in Europe in 2014, to assist Syrian refugees and vulnerable communities. Given the extended protracted crisis in Syria, the current situation in Yemen, and the tensions in the region, countries such as Syria, Yemen, Jordan, Iran, Iraq, Algeria, Egypt, and Libya are closely monitored so that RET is ready for prompt intervention.
RET has been active in Central & South Asia since 2001, working with Afghan communities in Pakistan, namely in Northwest Frontier Province (NWFP), referred to as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in Baluchistan, FATA, and throughout many provinces in Afghanistan, including Kabul, Parwan, Kapisa, Bamyan, Panshir, Badakshan, Kunduz, Balkh, among others.
With the Rohingya crisis, RET has been supporting Women’s socioeconomic empowerment work of local NGO in Bangladesh.
Given the tension in the region, countries such as Iran, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan are of concern to RET. They are closely monitored to ensure prompt interventions when required.
Since 2002, RET conducted operations in East Africa (the region spanning the Horn of Africa, to Tanzania and up to Sudan) as well as in Central Africa (the region spanning Chad to the Democratic Republic of Congo. RET implemented projects in the Republic of Congo, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda & Guinea, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Chad, as well as Kenya. RET is currently implementing projects in Burundi.
West Africa is the region from Niger and Nigeria to the Atlantic coast. From 2004 to 2007, RET implemented programs in Guinea and Sierra Leone. Over the last ten years, RET has been closely monitoring the G5 Sahel Region, and the developments in Mali, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Niger, and Chad. In 2019, RET launched operations in Mauritania and supported youth programs in Mali.
RET has been registered in Mali and Niger since 2019, monitoring and evaluating the political, social and economic conditions, and waiting to launch operations in Q4 2021.
The Sahel Crisis is of great concern to RET, leading to countries such as Nigeria, Burkina Faso and the Cameroon to be on the list of potential new interventions, as well as Ethiopia.
